Hey all! The good people in charge of the audio recordings for my club, the Gamer Symphony Orchestra, have just completed their work on our Fall 09 concert. Being a member of the chorus (soprano and second soprano when needed), I of course went to the last four tracks first. I don’t feel qualified to say anything about our orchestra pieces because I have never played an instrument in my life and couldn’t tell you good from bad… But of course, I think our orchestra is great :D

Please listen to our songs!
Fall 09 Songs

Promised Land
In The Promised Land, our a capella piece, I think that we were too close to the mikes or something. Our voices came out as sounding abrasive and clunky; we sounded much smoother in Dammerung, where there were also a capella moments. Promised Land absolutely depends on a smooth delivery, and this failed to happen somehow, which is crazy because we sounded great when we practiced. I have no idea what caused it. Our blending is good in Dammerung; why didn’t that happen in Promised Land? Which isn’t to say that I think we sounded awful. The recording is still pleasant to listen to. It just sounds amateurish at times.

Korobeinki
The chorus got pretty drowned out in the recording, which isn’t that big of a deal because the life of the song definitely flows with the orchestra. I think everyone did a great job, it sounds so lively and fun!

Dammerung
I think this is the best the chorus has ever sounded in a recording, ever, hands down. It’s such an improvement on our last attempt, I can’t even compare it. It just oozes with awesome. The blending and mood is great! There are a few spots where we clunked notes, but really. I am so proud of everyone, and props to the orchestra too, of course! This is my pick for best in show, so if you’re only going to listen to one song, make it this one! (Again, I’m a singer and most partial to songs with singing in them).

Baba Yetu
I was so disappointed in the recording of this one, because I felt that the chorus should have been given the spotlight… For the most part we sound garbled in the background. There is such rejoicing in this song, and I felt that it was best conveyed by singing, which I, for one, can describe as being nearly ripped out of me by the piece itself. But the balance is hard to achieve and I doubt it’s anyone’s fault. Maybe it’s just because this piece was so special to me, I was singing with every bit of my heart. But man, the orchestra does sound nice, don’t they?

Be sure to listen to our concert, and come to the next one if you can~! The spring concerts are always the best, because we preform on a stage instead of in a chapel. It’s sure to be awesome!
